Christopher Wilson Awarded the 2017 Church Club’s Young Adult of the Year

Christopher Wilson has been awarded The Church Club’s 2017 Young Adult of the Year Service Award for his missionary work in Hatsavan, Armenia. We are excited and blessed to share Chris’ story. You can support Chris’ efforts, and the children of Hatsavan here. “For a year, I spent my service teaching and wandering the beautiful country of Armenia as a Peace Corps volunteer. I was assigned to the region of Syunik Mars in the small rural town of Hatsavan. Life there is simple; your children go to school, you work the fields of your ancestors and you celebrate holidays and birthdays like a true Armenian. I was invited into a warm home, with all of the food my family could provide, not truly understanding what was being offered to me when I first arrived. Living in the suburbs of Westchester, New York I never felt the burden of being a farmer, the anxiety of a next meal, or even a deep-rooted connection to the land. As Americans, we do not always feel this sense of connection because we do not know how to truly stand still. We move with the bustle and hustle of life like an addiction, having no time to rest and no time to hear the beauty of creation. Sitting at my first Horovats (Armenian BBQ), listening to the laughter and stories shared, I began to see what drives the Armenian people forward: it is a simplicity in living and a hope in a better future despite the hardships. June is Gay Pride Month, the Episcopal community is happy to support our LGBTQ community.  The Episcopal Diocese of New York will be proud to participate in the Pride March in NYC on SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2017. The Diocese has taken care of all registration formalities, all you need to do is show up and bring your parish banner. The exact time and meeting location will be communicated about a week before the march, but likely 2pm-ish near Fifth Avenue in the 30’s. For more information contact Paul Lane  lgbtconcerns@dioceseny.org. The Season of Lent Resources

  As you make intentional choices about Lenten spiritual disciplines such as fasting, scripture study, prayer and charity, remember that God is with us on the journey toward the blooms of new life on Easter morning. We are on this journey together. May we gather and regather as a community throughout the season of Lent as the Young Adult Network.  Here we share a few resources for you this season of Lent: Find Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week and Easter Services and Events in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Connect with Episcopal Young Adults, and explore a new church, by attending one of the EDNY Network’s sponsored Sushi Fridays. Practice a Holy Sabbath. Turn off the TV, light some candles, and take time for rest and relaxation. (Exodus 20:8-11) Take time for silence and reflection at a local retreat center. Give thanks everyday. Keep a gratitude journal, keeping track of God’s blessings in your life. Clean house! Get rid of clutter and donate your gently used goods to charities. Listen to the penitential choral classic, Allegri’s Misere. Prepare for goosebumps. Donate your time to help homeless and needy New Yorkers, connect with an outreach program. Devote your commute to spiritual activity, read the Bible on your iPhone. Remember Lent with our desktop backgrounds – Download them for FREE. Spend time with people you find difficult, such as that annoying co-worker or cranky older relative. Pray for their health and happiness (Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:28). Applications Open for the Young Adult of the Year Service Recognition Award

  The Church Club’s Young Adult of the Year Service Recognition Award is a  regional program that provides recognition to an outstanding Young Adult (in his or her 20s or 30s), or group of Young Adults, for exceptional volunteer missionary service work within the Young Adult’s or group of Young Adults’ church or other community ministry acknowledged in the Episcopal Dioceses of New York, New Jersey, Newark, Long Island, or Connecticut. $1,000 Honorarium: The Award is accompanied by a $1,000 honorarium, of which $500 is designated to the awardee and $500 to the church or community ministry, presented at the Church Club’s Annual Meeting Application/Nomination Deadline: Friday, April 14, 2017 Application Guidelines: Click here Application Form: Click here for a fillable pdf Click here to download an MS Word file Learn more about past winners and submit application/nomination on  The Church Club of New York...
